About Nikisoft

We're a group of hobby developers who want to make the internet a better place. We're sick of the current status quo. We strongly dislike the fact that a few Silicon Valley companies have so much power about the internet and everything related to computers, and we want to give freedom and privacy back to users. We want to fight back against the adtech and surveillance industry. In short: We want to make the internet great again!

We want to achieve that by offering solutions that put you, the user, first. We know that we can't save everyone. There are just too many people who don't care and have "nothing to hide". It's the job of the governments worldwide to limit the powers of Big Tech. It's not something that we can do. But we can offer solutions for those that do care, and that's what we do.

Who still needs Windows if there is Haiku that is blazing fast, easy to use, doesn't get in your way and supports hardware that Windows 11 wanted to turn into e-waste? Who needs online discussion networks with dozens of blinking and distracting banners if there is the Usenet that focuses purely on content without the bullshit? We probably won't win against technically worse solutions because they have the better marketing and millions of venture capital, but we can offer a small alternative if you're as sick of all that as we are.

We're currently focusing on computers and online services. Thinking of modern smartphones, the situation is even worse. No matter if you choose Android or a iPhone, both are awful walled-gardens that try to lock you to proprietary services of the companies behind them with no easy way to escape them. And it's only getting worse. It's getting so awful that we don't have a good solution for it. Maybe Marathon OS will do better than the big two. Or Ubuntu Touch. Or Sailfish OS. Even if we're monitoring the situation closely and are deeply worried about our freedom on the devices that we'd rather not use, but also can't completely live without, we've decided not to get into the mobile OS or app business for now. We may revisit this decision if a talented developer with a focus on phones decides to join us.
